64' FLH exhaust?

I’m in the home stretch of the restoration on my 64’ FLH Duo Glide, but I’m stuck on what to do with my exhaust system. I know for sure it has the wrong mufflers and I’m pretty sure the rest of the system is wrong also because it doesn’t have the crossover pipe on the rear cylinder. The two pipes are completely independent. I plan on sticking to a dual setup, but I can’t find an original set for it. If I have to go with an aftermarket set, what would be my best bet?

I got parts for my exhaust from Antique cycle ,and nosparts.com. Also latley I've been getting nick nacks from old dude .Call them and ask if they are OEM or what ..These guys specialize in restoration stuff ,unlike the V-twim people that have all aftermarket...This is not to say the guys I mentioned donr sell aftermarket also ,but lots of it isn't .

Hey scoot ,I'm having questions about my exhaust too. I have the cross over set up you are talking about,but my connector pipe is wrong ,so I,m looking in Antique cycles catalog ,on page 41 it shows both independent dual systems and also the crossover type.
There are loads of mufflers on pages 42 & 43

Repop exhaust parts are, for the most part, junk. You spend more time trying to get them to fit than riding.

Note that the "S" and "Y" pipes are one piece, not two seperate pieces

Aaok Exhaust systems

There used to be a company called Aaok that supplied what looked like quality reporduction exhaust systems for Panheads, flatheads and Knuckles. While I have never seen the physical product, it looked pretty good on their web pages. However, I haven't been able to access their site, so I don't know if they're still around. Does anyone have any information about them and/or their products ??

As far as I know they get their pipes from the same place that others get their pretty but ill fitting pipes. Usually speaking, "American Made" pipes come from Dennis Corso. He makes the "S" pipe with the dummy rivets on it. His stuff looks good but doesn't fit so good. :-(

I started puting my exhaust together today to see how it was going to fit.I have a 59 pan that has the crossover pipe making it dual exhaust.Well the rear cylinder pipe with the Y in it wouldn't accept the crossover pipe.The Y pipe was out of round,and also had a lip on the inside of the Y that I had to take off with a dremmel.It still wouldn't fit so I put it in a vise ,and changed the shape ,but still not really round.I don't want to start squeezing the heck out of it and winding up with flaking chrome and a hexagon pipe opening.The crossover now fits in to the Y at least part way. It is not a round fit at all as I can see the places where there are gaps the exhaust will leak out. I'm going to be looking for some kind of muffler sealant .
I got this y-pipe from NOSPARTS.COM. It makes you wonder that to keep their name good ,why wouldn't they just check the fit..Any ways I'm going to e,mail them so in the future maybe they will.

It sounds like there is no good solution for an aftermarket exhaust.

Looking at the Palmers book, the front cylinder pipe appears to be the flexible corrugated style. Is this the only pipe like this? None of the repop stuff looks anything close to this! Is there a vendor who sells this style pipe that can be cut and made to work?

Exhaust systems can be a nightmare

Scoot that's only a cover used for a blueing pipe off the cylinder head. I always said leave everything loose and jiggle/wiggle to make em fit. We got more snow yesterday and it's about 15 degrees here. ugh! Hopefully a few more years and I'm outta here for good. Merlin in Pa.

Original pipes for the front are fairly common. They have a compound bend, and 4 slits, which the repops don't have. I will check later today. I think I have a couple out in the garage. I think I have them chrome, and bare.

That would be a huge help if you had an original chrome front pipe. Looking at the NOS book, it looks like they stock original S and Y pipes. If I can track down that front pipe, I will have repop for only two pipes.

Let me remind you that the "S" & "Y" pipe on a 1964 is all one piece.

I was under the impression they didn’t combine the s y pipes until 65’?
