Look in the business to business yellow pages for Taps-Extracting. There are four companies in my book. If you can't find that, cut that portion out. Weld it back up. Reshape and redrill.

A machine shop can cut a hardend steel tap or easy-out with a carbide end mill.

        thanks for the help

had one broken in the frame and was able to heat it up enough to loose its temper. (I lost mine too) and did drill and get that out

they were the only 2 bolts on the entire bike that were broken now all the parts for the bike are laying all over the garage. time to sort them out and get some cad plating kits and pakerizing kits and start my project.

sending the chrome out next week to have it redone.

anyone have or know were to get an original air cleaner cover mine has the bird on it I don't think that was original or is that ok for judging?

That is a Superior air cleaner, an accessory. Accessory's used to be OK. But I have head it said that if an accessory is not an addition but replaces on original part it would not be allowed. Better ask Kevin his latest opinion on accessories.

got the tap out a machine shop about an hour away had what they call an EDM electronic discharge machine. It desolved the tap and they were able to remove the bolt and it looks brand new

Cool, even though the machinery sounds vaguely sexual.

I.ve burned broken taps out with that equipment. It works great. A steady hand is needed though. Got to keep the electode on the tap, not the thread wall. Paps

never heard of one of those machines until the helpful people here said to look for tap removal.

that was the last bolt on the pan to take it from a running machine to a complete basket case as every nut and bolt has been removed and is ready to glass bead and recoat to the proper cad or park.

An EDM machine is very common in a mold shop, you submerge the part in a solution called dielectric oil and burn the cavity or in this case the broken tap with an electrode made out of graphite (pencil lead). The electrode is held by the machine head and passes electricity between it and the part to be removed when it almost touches the part, thus burning away the unwanted material. You can control the burn rate by the amount of electricity and the distance between the electrode and the part. This is not a hand held process. It makes a very clean job as you do not disturb the parent metal and can machine the graphite to any configuration that you want. It is hard to believe that pencil lead can remove metal, but it has been done many times for many years.

Paps and Carl have described two types of EDM which both work great. There is also the more modern EDM wire machine. It is sort of like a band saw but uses a wire instead of a blade. They are extremely accurate (within .003) and have a higher ft/pm speed than the older extrusion die EDM machines. No good for removing taps though.
