Back in my younger years I owned a 52 serve-car. The shock on the springer had Monroe on the front of it with a bunch of patent numbers. I keep seeing shocks on Fleese-Bay that are so called oem but are blank of manufacture. Anyone got a take on this? Bob

Ice cream wagon lots of fun. Ice cream wagon all most got Bob killed. Had to run the mag wheels at all nost 5 psi to avoid being put into obit by the New York City pot holes. Na Paps I ruled out the aftermarket theory.Last edited by Robert Luland; 11-08-2008, 04:04 AM.Comment

When I was looking for one a few years back, the few I did find that said “Monroe” on them where well past any usefulness. I couldn’t find any info on being able to rebuild them, so that may not be possible.
Seems that most of those old “Monroe” shocks that still work, are found on bikes that are ridden regularly. They sure do make a big difference in the ride.------------

How can you rule out the fleecebay aftermarket theory when there is no manufacture ? All oem ones I ever saw were Monroe.Comment

Back in the mid 1970's I could actually get the shock from Monroe but had to cut the stem off one end and the loop off of the other and then weld the HD brackets on. The earlier HD shocks show the same treatment but the later ones seem to have been manufactured especially with HD in mind. By the late 1970's I could no longer get them. Seems they were a shock on a tractor seat or something.
