      Please see the attached photos...
      I'm still waiting for the sliders that I won on eBay - I suspect (hope) that the left slider will be different that the one I have.

        I just received the replacement lower legs and as Duke suspected, the left lower leg that I originally had appears to be aftermarket - it's axle elevation is more than 1/4" lower (longer) than stock. The stock left slider fit's correctly and the axle lines up perfectly. Problem solved! Now I just have to get it polished (an option in 1953), replace lower the gasket and the fiber wiper, and re-assemble. Thank you all for your input.
