Panhead NOS Horn from 6V to 12V

Hi this is Michael. I am currently finalizing restoration of my 1957 Panhead. I rebuild already alternator and regulator from 6V to 12V. Do you recommend to rebuild also the horn from 6V to 12V? Should I use an resistor or rebuild the coil (double windings, diameter half)? Or just use it like it is? Do you have any experiance or recommendations? Thx Michael

My 62 is 12v and I am using a 6v horn power pack, no issues, 7 years now. The small amount of time the horn is activated doesn't seem to affect anything. The grandkids sure put it through a workout, if it can survive their abuse you're good to go IMO.

I run a 6V horn on my '46 Flathead, the bike itself is converted to 12V. it works fine, just the tone is high pitched compared to stock.

Running 6v horn on my 46 Indian converted rest of electrical system to 12v Horn works Great.

If you are "Restoring" it the electrical system should be 6V. Why go to expense of a new electrical system if the original has been working fine for 70 years?

I would use it as is. Just remember that at twice the voltage it should not be sounded for long periods.
