  • Linkert carburetor choke lever and rods

I've seen a pattern of fitment issues when fitting aftermarket choke levers and lever rods. They simply don't work correctly. After some modifications you can get them to work ok...
There are variables that can alter the smooth and correct operation of the choke system. The combination of parts I've analyzed that can effect the out come are the following:

    1) choke lever
    2) choke lever rod
    3) upper motor Mount
    4) carburetor/intake gasketing
    5) choke shaft arm

Each of these can have their faults/wear that is obvious when examined...
    My question is:
Does anyone have a source they can share that sells a reproduction choke lever and choke lever rod that are made correctly?

I've had to re-bend, in multiple locations, the rod. If I use a pattern from a old OEM rod I have, things then work...
This leads me to believe someone is doing this and selling them.
The lever, as well, has variations in dimensions that cause fitment and operation issues.
Now it is important to remember the two parts shown above are located in their home position by the upper engine mount.

If someone has successfully located sources for these parts that fit accurately, please share.
    Thank you,
    Duke

This might be a better part manufactured in New Mexico but it's for a Pan. I think the other is possibly a Taiwan /Colony part. Maybe use your new lever with this rod.

Not that the majority of repop junk ain't junk, Duke,...

But tuning the "rod" is where all the rest of the OHV inaccuracies must be accommodated, so all will require a massage. Might as well start from scratch.

Baleing wire makes a great template to get the length and bend over the manifold right, to avoid the common scar on the front spigot.
Coathangers aren't as stiff as they used to be, so I went to eighth-inch SS welding rod.

(I hope everyone knows the installation trick: Loosen and rotate the lever pin with a long socket extention from the right side?)

Strangebird has a very nice rod for panhead that fits and works properly without fuss.

With all due respect to Strangebird, Hack,...

              Gosh, Duke!

You enumerated five different variables, and we all know that would only be in a perfect world; There are infinitely more.

How could anyone produce a pre-bent one-fitz-all rod?
(Unless they produced the entire machine...)
