Here are four photos I posted for you on FB in September. First one shows casting number 24563-53A and date code 5-4.

Next two pictures are a 24563-53A case with date code 12 4.

Last case has casting number 24563-53B and date code 5 5.

Exactly what are you trying to figure out? I may be able to post other pictures if I know what you’re working on.

Well he did say left case....

Here is an inside picture of a left side late production 54FLE. Note it is a -53 not 53A case with a date code of 9-3.

      And here is the outside

The belly numbers match, the VIN is about 50 digits earlier than the belly, the right case is also -53 and dated 8-3.

Thank you all for the great pictures. Now if we can find the difference between the -53 and -53A.

For R-H cases with casting number 24563-53 my latest example appears to have date code 9 3 but I don’t have pictures showing the entire case. Earliest I have with 24563-53A has date code 5-4. What happened during that period? Could the change in casting from 24563-53 to 24563-53A have something to do with a change to the pinion shaft bearing?

Also notice a difference in the channels in the R-H cases below. First has casting number 24563-53 and date code 10 2.

When did they remove the concave hole for the generator strap from under the generator perch. Jerry

I don't know. I haven’t got enough clear pictures. It was still fairly pronounced in Jan-Feb 51. It looks good for Oct 52. And perhaps Mar 53. One example from May 55 looks like it was messed with later on.

                  Jerry,
I have a '57 belly numbered -53A right case date coded 5-5 and the generator boss is flat, no concave.
