  • Frame and Paint

Hello, I'm a new member and I have an old 1965 Electra Glide FL I'm attempting to restore. I've got the bike down to the frame and noticed a place where a flat bar about 3/16 thick has been cut off. I have a parts manual and it shows the bar with a hole in it. However, I don't have any detail determine the size so I can weld it back on. I'm not sure why the bar is even there. I'm guessing when I say tool box, maybe. I'm also looking for a template for when I have the tanks painted. I want to use the Holiday Red and Birch White two tone and finding those paint codes is also a task. I hope someone is out there than can give me some much needed info on this project.

    Thanks,

A picture would sure help. There is a vertical strap between the motor and the transmission on the right hand side of the frame that mounted the exhaust and it regularly got cut off when they put drag pipes on them. Jerry

Thank you Jerry, that is exactly what happened. Of all the pics I have I don't have one of that area and I took the frame in today for them to start work. Would you know the dimensions of that bar? I will get a pic and post it in a day or so.

Dupont still has a birch white that is correct. Go to your local dupont jobber. I also have a dupont code for holiday red I will get at work tomorrow. It is matched from a spray out from a pint of original hd lacquer couple of months ago.

Dupont code for holiday red is pr3 safari red. Again this matched from original hd paint. Dupont birch white is the color name. It is an exact match to my original paint 62fl. Good luck.

Thank you again very much. My bike is a 65 FL Electra Glide. My first time restoring a bike. I'm finding it to be a very enjoyable and challenging hobby.

All I can say is WOW!!!! That is sweet!! I will have several questions. On the frame there was a vertical flat bar that looks like it has been cut off. I kinda looks like where your tool box is attached. I would like to weld it back on but I'm not sure what the dimensions of the bar are. I going to try and upload a pic that I took today.
Yes, any info you can give me will much appreciated. Disregard the date on those pics. Also one side of the frame has a place I believe for the foot board the other does not. The owners manual shows one on easc side.

On 1965 and up frames there is only a footboard mount on the right side. The left side foot board attaches to the lug on the out primary cover.

Thanks Jerry, Did I explain myself well enough on the flat bar also on the right side of the frame? I'm not sure my pics were clear.

It's about 5 inches back from the right floorboard mount

Joel I am trying to dig out an early swing frame but the first one I looked at had the same problem as yours. I recall it being about 1/2" wide and 1/8" think and probably about 3" tall. I will looke again tomorrow. Jerry
