compensator sprocket

I bought a compensator sprocket at rhinebeck and went to put it on and found that the main shaft was bigger than the compensator sprocket end nut are thier differnet size end nuts? If not what do i do ? Thanks need all the help i can get

You may have a Sportster nut.

Also, if it's an early compensator for a tapered shaft, the S & S shafts have a larger thread size, and the compensation sprocket nut does't fit ti.
