springer front drum brake

2 Questions: The grease fitting on the backing plate [springer] that's for the operating arm,does an extension [like the axle] apply,or just the fitting,and what size is it, [5/16?]
The grease fittings I found[local hardware] do not have threads,[press in?] I cannot see any fitting on the exploded view drawings,or a part#. Also, on Bruce Palmer's chapter on brakes pg. 115 [in my book], there's a photo of brake cams,accordingly, the book states the cam 2nd from rt. is a rear cam. This is the one I have and it's the one with the bevel.
Can someone clear this up?. And,since mine fits,I'll assume it's correct,and with that, which way does the bevel face. The drum I have is not original, but came new[missing the fitting] with an original set of forks.

Harley grease fittings are a special thread 5/16-32, and you won't be finding it in any local store. Try Old Dude or Colony.
The fitting on the boss for the operating arm does not use an extension, (see the picture in Palmer's page 128) it fits directly into the boss.
The brake cam you have is NOT correct for a springer brake, the picture in Palmer's is correct.

Rob I was going though the McMasters catalog and hit upon grease fittings. They had the 5/16-32. So for $5 bucks for ten, what could I loss but $5 bucks. Well I lost! There identical in every way but one. The hex is double the height of the original. Just thought I’d let you guys know before ya blow a fin. Bob L

You can purchase 5/16-32 from Napa as well, but I didn't mention it because (Like Bob found out on the McMaster-Carr type), they are wrong dimensionally.
I use NOS or get them from a known correct supplier like Old-Dude.
