  • 1944 F

There is a 1944 F project available..but I'm not quite sure of that combination. What am I looking at with this model designation...?, is it a military model or a low compression civilian or police version..? or did this not exist..? Jeff

Yes they did exist but are fairly rare. Probably went to a Police department somewhere originally.

I do not know if applies to 1944, Jeff, but I have a 47F and I understand these were low compression machines, normally featuring 3 gear boxes and M75 Linkert carbs. I understand also these machines were intended for heavy duty applications - low speed , bad cooling... I hope it helps.

Unlike the 1944 shown in this clip they had no chrome anywhere on the motorcycle.

That statement is not true! They did indeed have odd bits of chrome where those items from stock were used to build the models approved for delivery. This continued until present stock was used up. Chrome parts that had been in inventory before the war were used, however any new manufacturing was in black or parkerized only. Period photos show this as well as Palmer verifying it in his book. By late '44 and '45 production virtually all models were totally blacked out!
