Delco Remy 9 bolt Horn

On an original Delco Remy 9 bolt horn what is an original cover made out of? Steel, brass? Does the year of the horn make a difference? I have one with a steel face and I want to know if it is correct for a 39 knuck. Any info would be appreciated

Steel faces were painted and brass faces chrome plated. Of course many painted faces got chromed after they left the MoCo.

what vintage is this

different than most you see, though i did see one of these in a complete EL collection. this one is mine. horn cover has less detailed shield and the wing tips don't turn up. it is "old". is it a remake/replacement or OEM. if it is a replacement, when did it come out? if it is OEM, for what years then? Will it be considered "correct" when judged for 37EL?

It very well could be a reproduction. Reproductions have been with us for 30 years. A simple test is a magnet. If it sticks it is a repop. If it doesn't is is more than likely original. Original chrome plated horns were brass. Painted war production horns were steel but looked identical to the chrome horns.

is the design of the shield and wings a points deduction in itself. assuming the rest of the horn is correct?

On a RESTORED motorcycle it would be OK. On an UNRESTORED machine it would be a no no. Judging handbook says "6. Accurately reproduced parts count the same as
original while judging a restored category. However, in judging an original condition category
the part must be original."

is the one shown in previous photo considered "accurately reproduced" when the bar/shield and wings don't really look like the OEM ones do/did? kinda like turkey feathers trying to be passed off as eagle feathers.
