Good pix! You do not have a late '47 neck forging? It is such a mess to measure anything when the bike is in one piece. I tried to measure the lower reinforcement (profile like the base of an I-bar). It is 63 mm. I took a picture of the neck at my winter storage. I only had my phone with me so pix are not the best and it was a tight spot to get my hand down between the bikes.

If you cannot make anything out of the small size in this site, I can email you them in larger format. Also the '46 UL is in one piece, so I cannot tell which Bullneck it has until I start working on it one of these years.

      Hi Fiskis.
This looks like the Double U frame used in the last run of 1947. If you look closely in the big triangular gusset on the right side of the neck you should see a mark like this UU on a bit of an angle. The U's can be a bit faint and blasting can obliterate them

        Hi,
        Here is a 1946
with the 1945- early 46 frame, inline springer.
        37XX ser. no. 2 years ago, I had a 46 with the
Bullneck frame, and offset springer. It was sn. range
4500 as for my earlier post, I sould have "said"
        there are always, exceptions.
All the "original paint" 46s, I have looked at over the years
seem to have changed from early 46 frame, inline springers
to bullneck frame, offset springer, widebrace fenders.
from 4200 to 4400 serial nos. ( I am no authority, just my
        observations) Again "always exceptions" LJH

          Here is a 1947
midyear frame (after the bullneck) offset springer,
narrow brace fenders (palmers book says- early)
45XX ser. no Bought from original owners son
I have never seen that frame before 6000 sn.
and those bikes had widebrace fenders
so much for the sn. Identifcations
          (always exceptions)

Possible to re-post pics of the early 46 frame?

Hello LJH - It was a long time ago; but, would it be possible to re-post
the pics of the early '46 frame?
The pics aren't in the post anymore. (maybe the pics didn't carry over to the 'new' forum?)

            From 2-11-08 post:
            "Here is a 1946
with the 1945- early 46 frame, inline springer.
            37XX ser. no."

The pics would be a great help.
I'm still tryin' to wrap my head around the early 46 frame.

            Thanks much !

p.s. - LJH, I also tried to send you a private message thru the forum. Thanks again.

                        Jerry,
A pic of the neck I guess - for an early 46 (below 4000 serial#). Just wanted to be able to tell the 41 to early 46 frame from the late 46 bullneck.

                        Thanks again,

Late '47 frame, XE-35over12 unique to late '47 according to Mr. Palmer's book. Late '47 frame alongside a '40 frame.

The obvious thing is the bullneck. The 1941-1944 frames are brazed and the late '44/'45 frames are welded.

Early 1946 BT did not yet use the bull neck frame . The earliest bike I know of with a bullneck is around 3900 serial number. These still have an inline springer for a brief span.
