Nice bike. Description says 98th 1936 "61 OHV" made. But the motor number is 36EL1098. Because motor numbers started with "1000" that actually makes it the 99th one made. I hate to sound pedantic, but even knowledgeable guys think HD motor numbers (pre-1957) started with 1001, when really they started at 1000.

That is a beautiful bike but with early Knuckleheads, you better know what you're looking at, and buy from a trusted seller like Barber. Personally, I think the 1937 - '39 ELs were the better looking Harley-Davidsons. Regardless, buying gorgeous motorcycles would be the sole reason I would want to be filthy rich

I like the 1939 paint scheme quite a bit. Otherwise the 36EL is special. I prefer that style carb cover. Honestly, all 1936-39 "61 OHV"s are beautiful.Originally posted by exeric View PostThat is a beautiful bike but with early Knuckleheads, you better know what you're looking at, and buy from a trusted seller like Barber. You and I have discussed the change from 1000 to 1001 before and I agree it happened. But I have no model layout sheets for the two years concerned so it would be good to see factory evidence of that change. Can you post layout sheets for 56 and 57 please or at least your notes from them? In fact, and partly because the subject of 1000 vs 1001 keeps cropping up, I’ve been thinking about initiating a new thread on H-D start numbers so that all info could be in the one place for future reference.Originally posted by HarleyCreation View PostNice bike. As for 36 Knuckles, years ago you found mention of certain models in your notes from a layout sheet dated November 29, 1935 but do you have an entire model layout sheet for 36? And if so, could you post it please. Thanks. (Only factory document I have so far for 1936 model start numbers is a motor specification sheet relating to BT Flatheads.)
