  • Inlet nipples

Just got carb and manifold off a ‘39 EL. Discover that the inlet nipples are different, one tapered, the other flat. The tapered one has less contact area than the other. Is this OK/a good thing? Or should I replace it with one with a larger contact area? Thanks.

    Absolutely, Zig!

I would replace them both just to properly rivet them.

Thanks Cotton,Will replace them , but wondering, what was the reason / advantage of the tapered nipple ? Or was it just a " good idea at the time !! "

PS: Beware Colony produced a batch with chamfers not quite that bad, but bad enough that https://www.carlscyclesupply.com/ produced better.
