The characters are not consistent with factory HD stamping.
I’ll upload a picture for comparison

In comparing the 2 pics, you wonder how this was accomplished. I don't seen any machining marks on the boss or the capture lugs for the speedo clip. I wonder what the belly numbers look like? Think this may be a factory replacement case?

Was there a Mid-year production change made in the crankcase castings? My reason for asking is that I've seen some 36' EL's that do not have the casting tabs for the anti-rotational speedometer cable clip. Or are those incorrect crankcases re-stamped?

Only the very earliest 36 did not have the tabs for the speedometer clips.

To me the 6 is the obvious culprit.

I asked the seller for a photo of the BNs but I received no reply.

For 1936 Knuckleheads the earliest I’ve seen the two nubs are four cases with SN 12++. But that doesn’t mean all cases with higher SNs had them. Most probably did but some didn’t. For example I have photos of seven with SN 15++ but only six have nubs. And I have photos of four with SN 21++ but only three have nubs.

Once again I see a link to case numbers on VAM and as usual those pages contain some SNs that are not consistent with factory stamping yet they are not described as such. For example 39EL1414, 41FL3553 and 47EL13649. And there are several others as I’ve said over the years on one site or another.

Eric and Jerry, Thanks for the reply.
Yes it's strange to me because I've seen and have photos of vin number 27XX without the casting tab bosses. I know there is plenty of stuff out there posing as something it isn't.
