  • Outer diamond primary

How do you tell the Outer diamond primary original from reproduction .I thought it has something to do with how the diamond was stamped.

The way the diamond is stamped is one thing, the depth and shape of the sprocket clearance is another. Originals have a pronounced radius where the diamond meets the domes, aftermarket are straight. The front sprocket stamping is a very shallow domed area, aftermarket are taller and more square sided.

Has anyone ever reproduced a cover with the correct dome?

As far as judging on a restored machine goes, if it is the best reproduction available it is fine.

Here's a picture showing the area Robbie is talking about. You can see the difference circled in red.
