    thanks in advance

Other than forging numbers there are no numbers on a Knucklehead frame. No VIN on a Knucklehead frame. For engine numbers go to http://www.vintageamericanmotorcycles.com/v/Numbers/

Which frame numbers are you referring to? There are a lot scattered around, and as Chris says they are all forging numbers. Without a picture of the VIN you are on your own.

I don't have my "How To Restore Your Harley-Davidson" book with me. All the forging numbers and dates are there. www.howtorestoreyourharley-davidson.com

I'm not an expert on anything but I’ll try to help. If H-D the frame sounds like a 43 model or maybe 42? But you’ll also find forging numbers and die numbers on some AM frames so clear photos of everything would be a good idea. Another marking found on some Harley frames is a repair number and it is usually stamped on top of the seat post forging.

As for the SN, could you post a partial photo please. F/FL or E/EL? If the former you may find a certain type of 7 on top of the cases near the rear engine mounting bolts. Photo? If the latter there should be nothing there and no sign that anything was removed. Photo? If you find 7s on top of cases stamped E/EL then the E may have originally been F.

Pictures of both BNs would also help.

Re the case numbers on VAM, as usual I advise caution when viewing them because some that are not consistent with factory stamping are not described as such. For example 39EL1414 (maybe dealer-stamped?), 41FL3553 and 47EL13649. And there are others.

I agree, when someone asks for help then doesn’t want anyone else to hear the answer, I think they are ridiculous. We are here to help each other not to keep secret I might have the same problem. Isn’t that what the forum is for to help each other?

No sir that’s not the case. A friend of mine came across this bike so I don’t have a bunch of pics and some people are weird about posting their vins online. It’s not my bike just trying to gather info before possibly purchasing. Sorry if it came off the wrong way.

Good explanation I agree with you, people are occasionally odd about posting vins and since it’s not yours yet we must be respectful.

Here's mine. It is registered in my name. Would somebody be foolish enough to use a number that is already registered? Why the paranoia about showing your numbers? 36el1004_zpsifxumokg.jpg36el1004_zpsifxumokg.jpg

A 1943. Very rare. Numbers look good. What about the bottom numbers?
A 1943 frame has all the joints brazed, not welded.
