    Reproduction bearing cups

    Has anyone used the reproduction ball bearing springer cups from V-Twin? Yea or Nay?

    My experience with them on a friends bike was that both the cups and cones are too thick causing the overall stack height to be such that the top nut was nearly flush with the top of stem. I had to set them up in the lath and grind seating surfaces on the cups and deeper radius on the centering part of the cones to allow them to stack to factory height. A huge PITA!

      WOW Robbie!! I had the same exact problem with the V-Twin cups and cones! Imagine that. Fortunately my machinist (Big Lake Bob) solved the problem. Like you said, PITA.

        Yup Dave, My friend couldn't install the steering damper after assembling the forks. Stack height was so high the rod wasn't long enough. Lucky for you you had Bob. He is a way better machinist then me!

          Also, Tedd's cups were not as hard as original, I was able to cut the race with a lathe tool to adjust the above mentioned stack height.DSC05416mp.JPGDSC05417mp.JPG
          Just to clarify, the orig race was 64Rc and Tedd's was 41Rc using a Rockwell scale hardness tester.
