This springer does not count it is a freak , everything about it is 1936 except the top casting it is a 1938

On the zerks for inboard, Straight or angled? Heard both ways and was curious on an untouched op bike.

My bike has the outside fittings, I want to say that the zerks are angled when on the inside but I may be wrong.

Didn't mean to start any crap, but you originally showed only one pic with outside zerks so I questioned it. If the top perch has been changed, why don't you change it back to an orig or one closer without the outside zerks? Bob

yea no biggie bob, I did not relize the pic showed the grease fittings , i will maybe end up changing it , but for now i have no use for it and it is so freaky i may leave it alone, merry christmas and happy new year to you and your family

I'm back after having a good Christmas. Our first grandkid is 11 months and we celebrated his first Christmas and had a blast.

Now on to more work on the soon to be 1936 springer. This is a before shot of the upper spring perch.



I welded both of the side grease zerk holes shut using a wirefeed welder.



Then I roughed it in carefully using is hand dremel.

Now I have to drill and tap the holes for the inboard zerks. The thread is 5/16" x 32 tpi. I drill these by hand being very careful that the small pilot hole hits the grease groove on the inside. The tap is one I special ordered and is the standard for most HD grease zerks that I am aware of. I drill the final hole and control the depth of it by merely putting a round of masking tap on the bit at the depth I need.

Robbie This is the first that I had heard of the dimples and I do not know what to make of it. I have no doubt they are original but the springer on my original 36EL2025 does not have them or do any of the other 4 early springers that I own. Secondly the obvious question is why. What is the reason for them. I cannot believe that a messed up stamping die would be allowed to run that long with such an obvious defect. Why only on one leg - I assume that both legs would have been stamped in the same die. Especially on a bike that they (HD) were apprehensive about releasing in the first place.

Great interesting thread Jerry. As for the mystery dents I also have seen these on some 36 forks but have also noticed it is not on a lot of them. Of the 17 36,s I have owned a couple of them had the dents but most did not. The all green bike in Louisville which is 100% factory stock does not have them. Keep the comments coming, I love this thread.

Love this thread Jerry..If I am using a digital camera..I have found that turning off the flash and using one or 2 led flashlights [or droplight] to highlite the area...and changing to Macro on closeups gives the desired clear shot..hope this helps

The problem I have Duffey is that I have lost the instructions for my camera and have forgotten what a lot of the setting do. I really need to get another manual for it.
