Brake lever dilemma

Ok, I have this brake lever that the brake cable end will not fit into or even come close to fitting into. As you can see by the photos, the opening is smaller than the cable bushing end slit. So, what does this lever belong to? Jeff

What year are you working on? The early cables (springer brake, 125, etc) are much smaller than Hydra-Glide. There are at least three different slot sizes.

Just feed the cable through the round hole and out the slit and pull on the cable. Then everything will be lined up how you need it to be then.

Thanks guys, I wasnt aware of the smaller slit opening for springers, but I knew better than to just alter it.You learn something everyday. I will have to grind the cable end a bit shorter to fit but I'll leave the lever intact. jeff

So, just out of curiosity then, does anyone know which slot sizes go to which years?

1941-late 1948, narrow. late-1948 through 1964, wide. Early uses cable bushing 4152-41 to hold the cable in the handle. Late uses cable bushing 4152-49.

There is also an in-between handle that has a medium slot. Made by B & H for their hand clutch.

You assume incorrectly. It is aftermarket.

When Kevin was Chief Judge his ruling was that an accessory was something that was added to a machine. Not something that replaced a part of a machine. I don't know how it is being considered today.
