  • Belly Numbers

I have some J/JD cases that have different types of belly numbers.

The earlier cases have two letters before the number sequence, while the later ones have a self explanetary two numbers for year stamped format.

My question is do the earlier letter codes relate to any years that they were stamped, similar to transmission date stamping.

    Thanks

I have a set of cases labeled XO-xxx belly no, with a 25JD engine no.
Also a drive case with a H4-xxx belly no and a 24JD engine no.

The number after the letter is a year code. It is the year in which the line bore number was STAMPED and could be a year earlier than the model year of the engine.
Your X0 / 25JD case is a mystery. Can you post a pic of the vin and the line bore number?
Is it a large base case? Does the vin look factory or like a re-stamp?

Here are some Photos of my 25JD cases.
I suspect the X0 belly number is correct as a set of 1920 cases.
The VIN no boss looks to have been removed at some stage and restamped, or it is a set of replacement cases that were stamped by the dealer.

It is definitely a number job.

I though it was after I measured the cylinder studs. It is a small base case that I don't think existed in 20, If the XO is a 1920 belly no.

The 25 VIN is NOT factory for sure. Also, ALL cases 1924 and up are large base.
The x is still a mystery as I've never seen a belly marking letter that high.
It looks factory but your picture is a bit blurry.
I'm going to say that it's a 1920 or 21 case that had the line bore markings stamped in 1920.

                        I agree on the VIN.
The cases have matching belly no's X0-695.
They also have casting marks of 2-18W and 2-18A.
I am sure they are factory belly numbers.

I agree, those are factory belly numbers. I've just never seen an X before.
