Began assembly of the transmission on the 1924 JD today. I assembled the countershaft gear with the roller bearings and hardened washers (2308-16) on each end. Fitting the assembly into the transmission case was difficult and with the countershaft installed I have no clearance between to countershaft gear and the mating pieces on either side of the case. The gear turns but I sure it's too tight. What clearance should I have? I assume that the only way to get the required clearance is to surface grind the 2308-16 washers or are washers of different thicknesses available?
Sorry to have so many questions on this project but it's actually stating to come together. Bottom end of the engine is complete and the top end should go on in a week or so.
