  • 1916 harley J- starter pedal?

See pics- I understand that the step start pedal is special for 1916

    Is it?
    Is this such a pedal?
If so- are they so rare that they are worth restoring?

That looks like a bicycle pedal that someone has put onto the standard pedal shaft.
That is NOT the 1916 only kicker pedal.

The 1916 pedal is a single block, unlike following H-D pedals that were 2 blocks like a bicycle pedal. I have a lot of pictures of 1916 H-Ds, but very few that show that peculiar pedal.

          Eric,
Could you post one of your pictures? I have a single block pedal that I wish was a 1916. thanks

Bill, I believe the pedal I outlined from the parts book was used in production. The 1916 sales brochure shows a single square block (like item #553) but I don't think that is correct.

The parts you have circled are correct. There is a picture in the book "the big book of Harley Davidson" that shows the factory assembly line where they are putting together what look to be late 1916 or very early 1917 models and the large single block kicker rubbers are clearly visible.

                  No.
That one in the picture is too small.

Right, I took the picture from a German Magazine (Oldtimer Markt) - they had an article about a 16F some years ago- restored to former glory. I think I will go for the normal pedal on mine then as it seems there are no reproductions to be found for the 1916 single pedal style
