  • Peashooters, Schebler AMX, Linkert MR1&2 race carbs

I have a Peashooter thread buried somewhere here. What I need at the moment is information about early Barrel type racing carbs.
Schebler or any other literature, regarding the AM barrel type racing carbs approx 1920? to 1924. These may have been used 26-27 on S models (they have a small plate screwed on upper surface between air horn and barrel lid [blanking cover # AM2], and also use an "air bend" under bowl, just like # H128 item from model H Schebler. The existence of these carbs is not mentioned in the 1925 Schebler "Service Station"manual) I have dismantled, measured and photographed 1 example of these.

Schebler model number for the H-D JK88K carb. (these carbs were used 1927 model year, on some H-D SA's. I suspect they are 1925-1927 Schebler AMX, but I want proof. I have yet to find anyone who has an example of a 1925-1927 Schebler AMX. The 1925 manual has these, but it gives no detail of H-D racers they were fitted to)

I think I have the 1928-1932? Schebler AMXA fairly covered, I have a 1928 Schebler "Service Station" manual and I have dismantled, measured and photographed 2 examples. Any supplementary documentation would still be appreciated.

Linkert or any other literature regarding, the MRI barrel type racing carbs 1933 only? (1933 CAC only?) Only 1 photo known (poor), no examples known to exist.

Linkert or any other literature regarding, the MR2 barrel type racing carbs 1934 to 1938? (1934 and later SA & CAC) I have dismantled, measured and photographed 1 example of these.

Is there anybody out there, or is it just me?

I held one in my hands once at D-Port, Duffey!

        Sorry Gent,
But my few pics snagged off the 'net don't include anything like an MR-1, unless Smokin' Joe ran one?

Very much looking forward to what this thread can turn up!

PS: Now that I think about it, he's got a Schebler, which nobody has ever trusted me with....

PPS: I never knew the flange was four-bolt; It still wouldn't bolt up like a GX, however!

            I could be wrong, Folks,...

But I don't see how that would bolt up either.

The L&L catalog drawing I posted shows an extra bolt hole cast directly below the three-bolt flange; Although the spacing might be close, it would sit at an angle if bolted to a flange for a GX:

            GX4KW3.JPG
And the catalog shows a spigot!

Was the flange upon the Peashooter head adjustable to 'vertical? (Thanks in advance as always,...)

              Here's a different MR-2 (allegedly), Folks,...

              mr2a.JPG

Please note the hybrid flange (proabably for a support?), and the knobbed high speed needle through the bowl nut.

Looking over a couple dozen pics I've snagged, it naturally seems like no two were alike.

The closest with a bowl like Petrali's was declared an AMX13,

              . AMX13 a 2.jpg Smells like bronze, too.

I can post plenty about GXs, Motorviking!

But I would really like to know more about the barrel carbs before we are distracted; Certainly the 4-bolt flange on the ebay MR-2 had to be a weld-on? (If not, it might just be a prototype.)

                      Once again, Folks,..
I need to learn how the various carb flanges were attached to the HD singles, Thanks...

                      ...Cotten
PS: The bronze AMX-13 bowl (with the later style of bowlnut) looks like the pattern for the common 1940 "beanpot" for Indians, and the 4-bolt flange had to be '40 and later for HDs.

                      L&L Service Parts special bowl.jpg
(Like previous graphic, this was from a July '36 L&L listing, courtesy P. Ruiter. "Die-cast" ZAMAC began production in June of '29, according to Yarocki. The AMX13 shown has an integral seat.)

It would be great to know at least when Schebler and L&L stopped producing barrel carbs...

PPS: It is annoying when they call bronze "brass".

                          And appreciated, Motorviking!

I have collected pics of stampings when I could...

Since that is not a model number, so we might call it a 'serial', or perhaps an "inspection" stamping.
                          The venturi-size stamping is inspiring.

Nearly all potmetal (die-cast) bodies had stampings upon the bottom of the flange, some unique, some not!

PS: Somebody please educate me: How would any other flange be installed upon an HD single than the GX-4 I previously posted? (One pulled up in front of my shop in a truck, once. Probably before my digi-cam.)

I'll try to view your pic on a better device, Motorviking,..

As it looks like the top of the carb,

And judging only by a few pics, the model number was most often on the side.

(As I posted, only once have I held one in my hand, and it was years and years ago!)
