I have a 1934 VL which I plan to restore. What type of stand can I build which will hold the frame for disassembly and assembly?

Use the rear stand on back and and axle stands on the footboard support rod on the front.Be sure to visit;

I have a hydraulic lift that I bought from JP cycles. About $250, as I recall. Lifts bike up to a comfortable height. You can strap/clamp the frame in place and it's quite secure. Locks in place at the top. I've seen better and more expensive units and some really slick hydraulic/pneumatic tables. But this gets the job done for a reasonable cost.

You have to remember that a VL has a single tube frame. Not double tubes like your EL and FL.Be sure to visit;

Here's what I use for my 45's....a combination of Chris' idea and the jack that sirhrmechanic is using. The rails go under the floorboard support rods. I made it and then realized that the cam chest hit the rail so that's why I have the cutout. It worked fine, but I plan to reinforce the cut-out
