i am installing the head lamp on a 46wl, do i have to use a ride control or shock on the bike? if not the side bolts go in what way, in side out to mount the cable clamp for the horn??? I am using a 46 bracket

please don't shoot me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that shocks were not offered until '47. The only fork option on a '46 was the ride control.
There were 2 headlight brackets, the "late" bracket will accomodate both ride control and shock and also provides the upper mounting holes for the horn which has the mounting plate riveted to the horn body.

You are absolutely right, they were available in '46. I was going from memory which is not as reliable as it used to be. I think what I remembered is that '47 was the first year that the shock was standard equipment, even on the Utility Group bikes, and ride control was optional on request.
