i am installing the head lamp on a 46wl, do i have to use a ride control or shock on the bike? if not the side bolts go in what way, in side out to mount the cable clamp for the horn??? I am using a 46 bracket

I've seen a very low numbered original red 46wl, that only has a ride control, no shock.

Yes mine is a low number 46wl and if I can't fine a nice original shock I might use a ride control

I'm doing a 46wl10xx, so mine won't have a shock. That original bike i've seen is 46wl12xx. Just going by what that one had. I know there is one in palmer's book that has the shock, maybe 13xx...maybe 14xx..I don't have the book in hand, so I don't remember, exactly.

please don't shoot me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that shocks were not offered until '47. The only fork option on a '46 was the ride control.

There were 2 headlight brackets, the "late" bracket will accomodate both ride control and shock and also provides the upper mounting holes for the horn which has the mounting plate riveted to the horn body.

                Mike...

I looked up in my "Palmer's" and on page 571 he says '46 was the first year for the shock absorber. He also has a picture of 46WL1382 with it mounted. Also in my '47 accessory catalog it lists the part number as 14000-45.

                  Bruce,

You are absolutely right, they were available in '46. I was going from memory which is not as reliable as it used to be. I think what I remembered is that '47 was the first year that the shock was standard equipment, even on the Utility Group bikes, and ride control was optional on request.

What was the original question?, I forgot....
