        So, motor kicks freely now. No more binding etc. I got her to start briefly and she sounded OK, but definitely something is still off. I plan to mess with it over the holiday weekend.

          FYI the plugs were fine. Slightly dirty but nothing showing major issues.

              So replaced the plugs with new D16 plugs. Drained the oil and it was black and definitely silvery. Primed her and she kicked over first kick but only runs smoothly at mid throttle. I was able to ride her around my storage area but she wasnt quite right...bit did operate okay. When I parked her I had this draining out the oil chain brush. Thoughts?

                I think you have a badly scored front cylinder. Jerry

                    Tim, you'll only make matters worse than they already are by riding for a diagnosis cure. Park it, and have a competent mechanic check it over.

                      Curious to get why people believe that might be the case? It almost sounds as if the values aren't adjusted right on the front. In any event I'll have Jason Simms take a look at it when he can. Again it'll start every first kick even when hot.

                        Because you got it very *HOT*, Tim.

                        Heat does the damage, as a chain reaction taking out the hottest part first, which is usually the front cylinder.

                        But the front cylinder was the victim, not the culprit.

                        Hope Jason can take suggestions better than you have.

                          T. Cotten alright no need to be rude. Simply asking questions and seeking answers. Jason Simms is a well known flathead guy and was the one who helped sell the bike to me.
