Rocker clutch spring stud install

I’m about to peen the NOS clutch spring stud on my rocker clutch. The spring mount part of the stud finally broke off from use. Any tips on setup for doing this? I figure there has to be a better way than just throwing it in the vice and swinging away.

Heat the end to be peened red hot. Use a correct rivet set to make it look original.

Does someone make a replacement spring stud? Sounds easier than welding and reshaping.

Colony does. I found a OEM one in the package on eBay for about $20. The guy I bought mine from has one more….here is a link

I think the factory did them cold in a trip hammer.

I think this would be the best method for the home repairman, I doubt most have access to a trip hammer or a 30 ton press to do it cold, my opinion.

Trip hammers are rare indeed, BLB,

But most of us at least have a press.

I’m pretty limited in my shed but I got it red hot and peened it. Worked like a charm. Time to pull off the repop rocker clutch and put a real one on!
