trying to replace the kicker bushings in a 41 u tranny..........when i took the throwout bearing out and shook it ,it sounded like my skull full of marbles."plenty of room in there"IS THIS NORMAL ON THIS THIS TRANNY , I THINK NOT BUT THOUGHT I WOULD CHECK. THANKS AGAIN ,TOM sorry about the caps

The throwout bearings pretty much always sound like that if shaken. They are thrust bearings and work when there is a side load on them. Hold the outside of the bearing and push the inner half against it and rotate it. It should feel smooth when checked that way. Robbie

        Throw Out Bearing

Another easy way to check these old throw out bearings is to place it on a clean spot on the floor(small side up) and place your foot on it. Twist your foot back and forth with part of your weight on it ( this acts the same as the clutch spring pressure). It should feel nice and smooth. Any roughness indicates that it's shot.
