  • 1929 DL generator drive question

I have the one peice 1929-30 DL generator drive and need help in nut size at end of shaft. Johnny Sells book says 0117 which is 5/16 x 24. It does not fit. The shaft has 24 tpi threads but I believe a different pitch. Can anyone tell me what correct size or Harley number. Thanks.

I have looked in the 1930-41 Spare Parts book and found no listing for the nut.

That book is too far away from the DL. Harley dropped lots of listings as you get further away. I'll look in the '29 and '30 books.

Update, the '29, '30 and '31 books all show the armature shaft nut as 0129 but no specs are given on it. Interestingly every year shows a different bevel gear.
It appears to be a 3/8-24 nut.

Thanks for looking this up, I do not have that earlier book. The generator armature shaft is a different separate part. This shaft runs horizontally from camcase to generator bevel gear. The nut I need size on holds on gear inside camcase. Johnny Sells book identifies this shaft as a 1532-29a Generator Drive Shaft Assembly. It seems to be a 5/16” nut and my thread gauge shows 24 tpi, however a 5/16x24 tpi nut just barely starts on and stops. Didn’t Harley use a different type thread pitch in the earlier years.

just found the 1928-32 Spare Parts book on AMCA library and it shows the 1532-29a Generator Drive Shaft Assembly only as a complete assembly and could not find the nut listed individually.
