im changing my 1931 Brake cable and am wondering if anyone knows the original purpose of this old clip on the original brake line.

That is an oiling point for the inner cable and it is newer than 1931. Jerry

Yes it has a 1939 part number (before being back dated to 1930). You need the earlier lubricator with a 1932 part number sold by Colony, but this needs the brake cable cutting. The cable lubricator was introduced later 1930 to 1931 with a slightly different style if you want to be really accurale, but this part is not being reproduced as far as I know. There is discussion elsewhere on this site with a picture of the original 1931 part.

Thank you for the information Steve.
I have a question for you. Do you know of anyone reproducing the oil control cable? In the process of routing mine properly behind the rear exhaust I have discovered it has been shortened in the past and will not reach the split throttle block.

Dear Montij, I just cut down the early nickel plated throttle cable to make the oiler control cable. Thanks for info Peter and well done Replicant.
