  • 1929 Harley DL Motor Modification Question

I have the bottom end of a 1929 DL motor and would like to assemble using the later and longer 1941-1973 45" cylinders and rods. I would be using all 1941-73 parts above the cases and realize I will have to fabricate the valve stem covers. Would the later 1937-73 upper end parts be a bolt on. Thanks!

I don't know for sure but, it seems to me that since the cases you have are from a total loss oiling system, that there may be some issues using a recirculating oil system top end and other parts. I would want to know for sure that everything is going to be oiled as it should before I started mixing parts. JHMO but hope it helps. Good Luck, Smitty

That is a good question. I do know you can bolt a complete UL top end on a total loss VL lower end.

There is no oil feed to 45 top ends, old or new.

I believe it will work. Going to try it. Nothing else on bike will be correct.
