Is there anybody resurfacing and regrinding cams out there ? or any way to recondition slightly pitted cam lobes . I know you can get new cams for a UL from Andrews but what are your options for a VL. . Any Help appreciated .

I've sent Andrews a set of used VL cams last year, and told them more VLs were made than ULs, but no response so far. I hope they make them because good VL cams are getting hard to find. If you only have light pitting or scoring I would let it go, as the cam surface is pretty forgiving with those roller lifters. Clean up the lifters in solvent and you may find movement in some or all the rollers, in which case put in a new roller set which is not big money. I have had some street/race cams made with a UK specialist, with more lift and overlap, by welding the lobes and reprofiling. The WL guys are doing the same, trying to turn them into WRs, so that might be a better contact for you. Without seeing the cams, I'd say change the rollers and sit tight.

scooterscum61, I recently opened up my U model and found one cam with damage on it. I did some asking around and found two shops that looked promising for repairing the cam. They were http://www.oregoncamshaft.com/index.html and https://leinewebercams.com/. In the end I decided to replace all the cams with a set of Andrews so I can't personally attest to the quality of their work, but I can say they were both responsive to my emails and questions. Much cheaper to find another set of cams. Remember 1930-33 vs. 1934-36 based on which cover and pump.

Pitting is really not an issue but does depend on where the pits are located on the lobes. If the the lobes are within factory specifications, pitting may actually help lubricate the the lobes. Small pits here and there are nothing to be concerned about.

Just how much spring pressure do VLs have, Folks?
"Pitting" implies only corrosion; 'Spalling' to where crystal structure shows under magnification is something else...
I have found many OHVs running pitful cams with little problem,.. until the rollers gave it up.
Needle rollers really need hydraulics; What's a Flatty or Knuck to do?

That looks great, they did nice work . I was able to get a hold of Leinweber's and sent my cams out after talking to them . I had heard about them years ago and again from your link The owner Jim is 86 and his son now runs the shop . I spoke with Norma , Jim's wife Very nice person and extremely knowledgeable we had a valuable conversation . They are going to get back with me once they assess the work to be done . Thanks for the lead I will let you know how it progresses .

Scooterscum, I expect my set of VL cams to arrive tomorrow from Leineweber. As you said very knowledgeable and customer focused. I had mine reground for more lift, but they'll do what ever you need. Justin called after assessing and was very helpful. The cost to regrind with heat treat and shipping was less than a set of good used cams these days. Seeing is believing though, I'll let you know what the delivered cams look like. Good luck with your VL project.
