  • WLC Letter S painted on the side of the dash?

The new Palmer book on the Military bike now states that the letter is BLUE DRAB. Anyone know what color it is or where to get some of that color?

I wonder where the idea of the letter S being 2 inch high in red in Palmer's first edition?

I have an NOS olive drab dash cover with a big S on it. I will look at it again. It has been a while. Jerry

Hi Jerry, I believe the way the red color came into effect is it was based on a black and white picture. I was told a colored picture shown on the liberator web site shows a military motorcycle still in a crate and it has a blue S. WLC, WLA, a used bike crated and shipped, I wouldn't know. I haven't seen the picture yet. Lets see what you come up with. Very interesting. OK, I just looked at the web page and I'm convinced the WLA had a blue-drab S. WLC ???

This is the earliest photo I have showing the drab blue letter "S" on 43WLC1046. In January 1944 the "S" was moved to the rear fender.

S= Suppression, as in electrical system suppressed to be able to be in proximity of radios without creating static noise.

Thanks Jerry much appreciate actually seeing one in color....I guess I'm off to buy some blue drab and make a correction in my first edition of Palmer's book..John and I have been going back and forth as we both have red S's on our 1943 WLC's..might as well get it right. Once again, the folks on the forum rock...many thanks
