Starter pedal

I'm restoring an early 42WLC and I'm having a problem deciding which kickstart pedal I should use. The one fitted at the moment is a single piece one (2091-16), which is obviously wrong. In Bruce Palmers book it says that the pedal should have rubber blocks but in my spare parts manual, it shows steel tubes (2093-17). I have been offered a NOS pedal with steel tubes, should I buy it? BTW I'm looking for a front marker light for a WLC, 4901-41AN (totally different to a WLA one), and an auxiliary tool box 3452-41A that is fitted on the front fender. Has anyone got any leads?

Hello Rowdy,
In regard to your questions, the WLC used both starter pedals. Early WLC's used the black rubber bicycle pedal--PN(33175-16). Later WLC's used the steel spool/tube starter pedal--PN(2093-17).
Bicycle Starter Pedal used up to--42WLC19000
Steel Spool/Tube Starter Pedal used on 1943 WLC's --'Domestic' & 'Export'.

Buy the NOS Starter Spool Pedal if your Engine VIN # is after the above--42WLC19000. As far as the Auxiliary Tool Box and front marker light, i have a Russian contact-(don't tell the Dems--haha)- who finds a lot of WLA sTuFF, since we left the highest volume over there-over there. Rowdy; I don't know if this is the marker light that you need, as this has a -43 number. I don't know enough about the military bikes. I also don't know if this is a good price, but I have dealt with these guys for years and are very reputable.

Thanks for that Craig, it is in fact for a 43WLC, I have managed to find a front marker lamp, well a very rusty body without the lens, gasket or spring clip for 180 Euros! Prices for 45 spares seemed to have shot up in the last couple of years. I have just paid more for an auxiliary tool box, that is mounted on the front fender, than I actually paid for the complete bike, in 1981.

As far as I know the steel tubes were replacement parts. Not originally used on bikes. The rubber pedals were soon replaced by the all steel barrel pedal.

Interesting. Most all of my WLC pictures show the Barrel pedal after the Rubber disappeared. I just picked up some NOS steel tubes that will go on my Knuck bobber.
