Hello all. My name is Karl and this is my first post to this forum. I am in the process of putting together a '49 WL that I bought in boxes and I have a couple of questions on the Sport and Utility Solo groups. Thanks much to Chris Haynes for posting the 1949 Dealer Order Blank on his web site.
I am trying to make this bike as correct as possible and need to clarify a few things:
Sport Solo Group
Were the footboards chrome? I didn't see any mention of it, just want to know for sure.
Colored shift ball - What color or is this the dice shift knob?
Was the hand shift lever itself chrome?
Stainless foot lever - Is that the brake or clutch they are referring to?
Are the short and long brake levers supposed to be cad or parkerized or?
Fork springs finish?
I know it came with chrome rims but what finish on the spokes?
What color should the rear brake drum be?
Utility Solo Group
I see that they came with black rims, but were the spokes black as well?
Brakes, hub, everything black?
Was the trim ring around the head light black too?
Fork springs finish?
Were the shift gate and lever black or chrome?
All primary cover inspections plates are black?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've looked online for photos of original '49s but man, without knowing I don't know what to look for to make this bike correct. Does anyone have a '49 brochure or accessory catalog that I could get a copy of?
Thanks much,
Karl
