I can’t find anybody in my area (New York City) that does cad plating. They all say the government in a quest to protect employee’s health has made it in possible to function. Instead they are doing a thing called Zink-Nickel. Anyone know if this stuff even looks like cad? If ya got to improvise you might as well get as close as possible. Bob

I looked on the online Yellow pages and found this place. They list Cadmium plating at the bottom of their web site.

I called a place just yesterday on cad plating. They advertize cad plating, but when I asked more deeper information, he told me they actually do a type of zinc plating instead. He also informed me the zinc type plating has a bit more glossy look to than actual cad. The cost for a transmission top was $55.00. The top I need replated is nos but time has changed the cad finish in many areas on it. Some areas look great but many are blackened. I have a can of coating I got from Cotten years ago. I compared the coating to the good cad finish areas of the cover. I can't tell the difference beteen the two. I may just coat it with this coating and save myself time and money. Paps

Muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) is extremely slow at removing cad plating. A 10% ammonium Nitrate solution is much faster. You can buy ammonium nitrate at farm stores, although in these post OK City/post 9-11 times, you probably will have to sign a ledger book. If you talk nice to them, they might even have a broken bag from which you could scrounge a coffee can full.
