  • Primer. What had primer and what color was the primer?

Building a 46 knucklehead and was discussing the topic of primer with a painter.

What had primer under the paint and what color was the primer?

Frame? Did the frame have red primer?

Fork? Did the fork have red primer or just a sealer?

Tanks and Fenders? Did the sheet metal have red primer?

    Thanks!

I have NOS Knuck tanks that are Parkerized in and out then covered with Red Oxide primer. Post war fenders were the same.

Here are bare metal fenders being sprayed. Paint or primer? With a B&W photo I can't tell.

Frames were painted with a combination paint/primer. Notice in the 1939 picture the bare metal frames covered with brazing flux being painted.

Tanks and fenders were parkerized, then painted. The red oxide primer over park tanks and fenders were parts department suplied.
