Tranny ID required

Ok folks here's one for you. I was at my buddy's looking at a pre 65 tranny and when I went to look for a casting date I was stumped. I'm used to seeing a letter followed by a number, but not on this one. It has a 3 then a space and another 3 cast into it. It also has a 2E stamped in it. Any ideas?

The 3 3 code was used during the mid '50's. Don't ask what is means of why as that answer hasn't been found yet.

there were a lot of stamps put on a lot of parts. Inspector numer? Operator number? Who knows.

i think it is known that the 3 3 code means march 53. what is not known is how many were cast in march of 53 and how many years it took to use them all up as assembly line installs and as replacements cases.

Being as the 3 3 case is found up to at least 1957 that would have been a very busy March 1953 at the foundry. Between 1953 and 1957 at least 26,658 Big Twins were built. Just imagine the space it would take to store that many cases.

which leaves us with the only logical explanation---they must have stopped changing the date in the mold for some reason
