Schebler DLX models?

What years and models of motorcycles were produced using these Schebler carburetors:

Cotten, the DLX 67 was used on 1930 to mid-1933 D & DL model H-D 45's.
The others I don't know.

Dear Tom, the 1928 Schebler manual does not mention any of these, so I'll guess they are after 1928 with the exception of the DLX 7. Schebler says the DLX 9 was fitted to the 1921-25 Reading Standard, so maybe the lower number carb is even earlier.

Jerry Hatfield's Indian restoration guide names 17 Scheblers in the DLX 77-130 range as used on these machines.

I've seen pot metal 1 1/4 inch 3-bolt DLX 80,82,85,88, 92 on 1930-33 VLs. I now think the bronze 1 1/4 inch 3-bolt DLX 58,66 and 72 were used on the 1928/29 and possibly 1930 Harley Big Twins.

There is still a gap in our knowledge of what was used 1930-33 on the Harley small twins, before they switched to Linkerts, and the 1928-30 Indians not covered in the 1928 Schebler manual or Jerry's book. Keep an eye out for those unrestored bikes!

Thanks for the update;

I now suspect the DLX61 was an "export model" for Chiefs prior to 1930. Such a catagory could explain many 'mystery' models, but without contemporary literature, even unearthed examples can only make us guess.

One can only wonder where Schebler's own documentation went.

Chuck Vernon is doing pretty well - I think much better. He was having lunch with John Eagles and Vaungh last thursday and seemed well. Though not 100 percent, also his wifes health is an issue too. He will appreciate folks are asking about him, I will pass it on - Tom.

Dear All, another fragment of information. A Dutch guy with a 1933 RE Harley small twin sent me a picture of a Schebler DLX 87 on his original bike. It's a pot metal 1 1/4" unit.

1929 45' DLX Carbs

From looking at several 1929-31 D:s and DL:s (it is a reasonably common bike in Sweden) I believe that the DLX brass carbs was used in 1929 and the first half of 1930. On the bikes I have seen, the D model has DLX 60 and the DL has DLX 67. According to my measurements the carbs are identical except for the size of venturii, the DLX 60 has 3/4" venturii and the DLX 67 has a venturii size of 7/8". Bikes originally fitted wit the pot metal version of these carbs (used in 1930-31) usually turns up with a replacement linkert carb.

I'd say the DLX 72 was used on 1929 JD Harleys, and maybe first 1930 VLs. By mid-1930 the VLs were using the pot metal DLX 80.
