Is the transmission case the same for a 4 speed or a 3 speed reverse

Are you trying to be correct for '37? The internal parts are different than later types.Robbie Knight Amca #2736Comment

I personally much prefer 4 speeds forward than 3 speeds forward with a reverse. The first year I ran a sidecar I had a reverse transmission in the bike and ditched it the 2nd year - I never had a problem finding a parking spot that I could drive out of. I have no experience riding a bike with an early reverser although I have rebuilt a few of them. I find the late reverser 'cantankerous'.Originally posted by ldfly112 View Post

3 spd gearsets are not easy to get,early or late style.I have an extra reverse shift fork for the later style.Comment

The countershaft cluster gear has an R stamped on the end of high gear
