  • 1965-69 Big Twin clutch baskets

    Can I use a 70,s shovel head clutch basket on a 1967? i think there is a difference between late and early baskets but I don not what it is. Thanks

      Those are both "late" baskets, early is pre '65.

        They are different in the spacing of the starter ring gear.Early part #37702-65,later is 37702-70A.There is a difference in starter shafts as well.
        The clutch hub from '64 & earlier has a lip on the back & won't work on '65 & later wich has no lip to clear the inner primary bearing.

              The ring gear on a '70 up is almost flush with the back of the basket, the '65-'69 goes further on. The machined area of the basket where the ring goes on cuts half way through the first rivet holding the plate tabs.

                  i have a dozen or so clutch baskets, probably have what you need for sale if you can't find one.
