Date codes

Someone wants to buy a -9 pan cylinder. That got me going again searching for answers on the codes. Where can I find some sort of list explaining what the letters and numbers mean? Same info needed for heads-trans cases-covers-ect.
Also I have some cylinders with no markings and am 99% sure they are OEM, is that possible?

OK I just got another set of cylinders. Rear has no marks and ft., I believe is K 26-0.

OK so does that mean December is A- Jan B- ect.? But how do you know if it's 1950 or 1960? And were there random year cylinders that had no marks?

I went back and verified that the K 26-0 I have does have a return hole drilled inside the bore, and it's too nice to have been done with a hand drill.

Jaunary is A. I is often not used. 1960 would have a different numbering system.

Ok, so why does this cyl. have the 53-up return hole? Hate to keep asking questions but I can't make any sense out of the code except that A-M = months and the first #'s = a day date and possibly the last # = the last digit in a certain decade. How do you tell what decade the part was made in?

Could it be a replacement part cast in 1960.
