  • Some interesting old bikes from Floyd Clymer's Motor Scrapbook

Thought these two 'bikes' were worthy of posting. Did either of them survive?

This machine was built for a land speed record in 1937. Anyone else note that the caption says "Perhaps we'll hear more about it after the war." Yet WW2 was still some 2 years away for Europe and more than 4 years away for the USA. This seems to be sort of a precursor to the 'Road Dog' or the Boss Hoss. Note chain steering.

Ok... this is just bizarre. No idea whose single motor was used in 1936. Steering must have been fun.

Cheers and hope folks enjoyed these.

The top one looks deadly fast and the bottom one is just plain cool! I believe I've got articles on both of those machines around here somewhere.....

I can tell you one thing. I wouldn't be wearing a tie on that machine! I think when the brakes are applied that you just sort of rock a bit. I had visions of somersaults when I first saw it. Hey! Can you picture a speed wobble?!!!!

Interesting that that is the only picture that I've seen from that era that someone is wearing a helmet on a street bike, do you think HE thought it kinda crazy it ride that thing?
