thanks for investigating this issue, which is really about privacy as it relates to our favorite posessions (old bikes and where they might be stored ie at our homes)....i would suggest ya stick with the moderator thing - we won't abuse you too much...

        FYI:

        1. The ability for non-registered users (or visitors) to view registered members' personal profile information has been disabled.

        2. Check your personal profile and ensure that your last name is entered correctly in the "Last Name" field. For some time in 2009-2010, there were not first and last name fields when a member registered. For those users who entered their names at during that time, their names will only appear in the "first name" field on their respective profiles - leaving the "Last name" field blank. If you are not sure, check your profile and also be sure that your member number is correctly entered in the "AMCA Membership Number" field. If your last name and member number are not in the correct fields come November 15, you will not be able to log into the forum and post messages.

After selecting the "My Profile" button I selected the "About Me" tab and on that tab it states, "View your About Me as seen by everyone else." So I take that to mean that everybody else means members only?

Yes, members only. Visitors who are not logged in can no longer see member profile info.

Reluctantly, my lips will be silent after Nov. 14th. I know some of the brightest web gurus. They have been in the field well before Bill gates entered into it. Even with their skills, there is no way to keep a hacker from getting in at one time or another. The web is a game. It is played just like the truckers verses the police. CB radio says Bear in the air, plain white wrapper, bubblegum machine at the 3 mile marker. Police gain a new tool. Truckers obtain the defensive tool...the radar detector. Police obtain better radar. The cycle repeats itself. The web is the same. It is a grave error to assume you have all the bases covered. Well here is one base you best cover. It is called Liability !! A disclaimer will protect against liability if you don't doubt my advice concerning hackers. Paps

I am not to worried about the info I have on this forum being viewed by hackers. Maybe I should be, but I'm not the brightest when it comes to computers. Ebay, Paypal, and a host of others have much more of my pertinent info than AMCA does and so far that has worked out OK. This "members only" strategy for being able to post and see others profiles will only work as long as a hacker doesn't decide to pay 30 bucks for an AMCA menbership and then start doing his dirty tricks though.

I agree with jwl. The way I see it, you can enjoy what we have here, or throw your computer away. Common sense goes a long way when it comes to using the internet.

Would that include the spammers that somehow register and have their name on the board but have "suspended" posted beside their name?

At any rate thanks for addressing the "Members Only" thing in such a timely manner.

When the hackers get any info, such as on a forum, they have the tools to hack ebay and paypal. They will get to your bank accounts eventually. Once they obtain any credible information, they follow you everywhere you go on the web. They track your moves from that information. Doesn't anyone pay attention to the news ? The authorities always confinscate computers ! Why ???? If one thinks dumping cookies and deleting files gets rid of data, they need to re educate themselves. Ask the Pentagon how they were hacked !! Do you believe they know less than the people who operate forums ?????

How easily can a hacker beat an "I think I am in control web master" ??? How easily can they obtain pertinent information ?? How easily can they track your every move ?? Here is just 3 examples of a nano taste of how...... Paps

This is the issue I am addressing. Both my first and last names appear in the first name space. Try as I can I cannot change it. Thanks Robby for your response, but I viewed my profile, this is the way it is, and shall be forevermore it appears! Please advise Mr. Administrator.

Sorry Paps, hate to see you go, but I guess you have to do what your own mind dictates. This whole thread is reminiscent of Y2K thinking, along with the 2012 fear-mongering. The way I see it, if this makes you quit what you like, Big Brother and the scumbag hackers already won. Time to suck on that 1911. As for me, I will happily continue to post and use what discretion I see fit to suit myself. I have no illusions about the world I live in. But I will not give in to fear and paranoia.

Hey Pete, are you clicking your mouse on the pencils beside your first and last name?
