On the 1930 VL models the format like 30VC1234 shows it is a commercial model with the small inlet manifold, low lift cams and a 1" carburetor. The format like 30V1234C shows it is a regular standard compression model fitted with iron pistons, but with the normal cams, manifold and 1 1/4" carb. The distinction was because the first 1930 bikes were fitted with magnesium pistons, found too noisy, and replaced with iron pistons.
