Call for Warren Buffet, you're motorcycle is waiting for you ! Greg H, that '47 is, without a doubt, priced in the stratosphere. I hope the seller and buyer get what they want. If they do, it's a good deal.

You think that an unrestored 1947 Knuck with sidecar is overpriced at 18G's? I think that is a bargan.

how do you figure it is only 18G's - it has not met the reserve, if it was only 18G's ya its a GREAT deal, wait till bidding is done, that is how an auction is handled and then comment on the GREAT deal after all the .com boys spend their "hard earned money "

              Basket Knuck

A basket case should be priced a lot less than the survivor on ebay. But could end up just as high if there's a lot missing and consider the education you'll get trying to put it back together, priceless! Look for a 47 U it should be a lot cheaper!

if you buy all the parts separately it will cost double. if you go to ford and buy all the parts to build a truck the parts alone will cost----well you get the picture. the idea that a basket case will be cheaper doesn't apply on most old harleys now because so many of them have been put back together that about the only parts left are in really bad shape and need a lot of work. chris i think everyone on here knows that a rattle can is not a restoration----DUH---but i think everyone on here has used a rattle to simulate one finish or another on a bike that they are riding and not showing. i make a point to never tell anyone what the have unless they ask me for two reasons---one it might turn them into a curmudgeon and two i might want to buy the part from them and make a new friend

The reserve probably won't get met.

I agree Paps. Somebody's just testing the market with no real intention of selling. Been alot of that going on lately.

Steve, isn't it funny how just 10-15 years ago, a '47 Chief was the "gotta' have" motorcycle. Now it's Knuckleheads. It's a strange disease we have.

The attraction to the 36-47 Harley overheads is not a current fad. Knuckles have always been harder to get and more expensive than other models. I guess I shouldn't say "always" but certainly in my 30 plus years of old motorcycle madness. The motor is special and anyone that has owned or currently rides a Knuck will verify that. When I decided I had to have one in the late 70's I was living in the Minneapolis area. I beat every bush and chased every lead in my search for almost a year, probably looked at 20 machines. There were some pretty nasty chops available, but I was looking for a stocker. The good Knucks, when actually offered for sale, were twice the money of comparable Big Flats or Pans. I ended up paying 2000.00 for a 39EL that had been stripped for racing and hadn't run for 15yrs. My Dad took one look and said I had lost my mind. Maybe the Knuckle fever did get the best of me, but I have no regrets.

You're right Kyle, Knuckleheads have always been special. I'm belittling them because I'm envious and want one. There. . . . I said it. My first reliable motorcycle was a '37EL which I got in the early 70's. That bike had instant Karma at any bike shop or biker gathering and got respect from most riders. However, not everyone revered them. I had a good friend that had a '37EL that he traded a new 350 Honda for. He got the EL from a man in North Dakota and the guy would only take a new Honda for it. In retrospect, I recall that this bike was very correct and would have been a gem today. Of coarse I didn't really know what was right for a '37 even though I had one. Mine was a poor restoration that used Panhead parts and aftermarket replica parts. He used my bike as a pattern to restore his, hence he threw away the on/off oil pressure switch and swapped out many stock parts for chrome replacements. After he finished the '37 and rode it for about 6 months, he traded it for a Panhead chopper, which is the bike he wanted all along. Just goes to show you.
