flat hap. It sounds like a pretty good bargain on that pre war Knuck to me.

I'll be hanging on to this 56. Bikes like this don't come around very often. I feel lucky to have it.

You guys are great! Thanks for the welcome and quick replies. Something has just drawn me to the Knuck, figures it would be the bike that everyone wants... I used to work for a Harley dealership so I was thinking about a basket cause I can get the parts cheaper. I just love the old bikes but you guys are right, maybe I should put it on my wish list. Where do you guys find the bikes you pick up?

Nice bike Dave! My old boss had a gorgeous '55 Pan that he sold and has regreted the second that he handed over the keys. I really appreciate everyones imput. I have read a lot about antique Harleys but this is the farthest I have ventured. I have an '01 Fatboy but I really want something with some character. I'm hoping to make it to some of the shows this year and meeting some of you face to face. Thanks again for all your advice

There will always be bigger and better bikes if you get bitten by the bug.
I guess you haven't priced parts lately.

            rinebeck meet

this is in responding to all the rinebeck chatter well I see every one had fun at the meet with the exception of ALL THE AMCA GUYS AND GIRLS THAT DIDN'T WANT TO PAY THE 15 BUCKS TO GET IN.and have any other vendors but in there 2 cents well here's mine, my swap spot was half the size that it was from the last 2 years it still was at the same spot just half the size.they but a road thur so all the motor homes could get out into the back alley its tough when your used to one thing and then it becomes someones dream to make the meet run smoother like lets take some g.p.s. photos and make the meet more profitable and charge a gate fee to amc members and not let the vendor set up like they do at every other meet.(thursday is the day the vendors do there buying and most of the time thats the best day to sell) the first meet I went to it was free entry for both vendors and the public and that was the amc rule(your dues paid for the field or the field was donated for the meet time) another one was quiet time if you where making noise after dark you caught a ear full from some of the older club guys that where trying to sleep, heres another good one having to remove your t shirt because its says give me head till I'm dead. boy have times changed, I still had fun at the meet trying to get all the stuff that I brought set up before the public came in on my small spots just to let every one know they where 20x30 now 15x35 (with a big tree on the spot also) just to get a couple more spots in there, I got on the field just before 8:00 am and the line to get in was still very long for the other vendors waiting to do the same. the yankee chapter has a real nice location and its look like it would hold just as many vendors for alot less money and headaches
In the long run the AMCA should own land to put on there own super swapmeet

What would you guys suggest as the best route to go in finding a bike to buy? I look through Walneck's classic cycle trader. Just wanted to know if there is a better route to take.

Best thing is don't get in a big hurry. You'll know in your guts when you find the right bike.
Beat the bushes-- look online at Craigslist, CycleTrader, want ads of your local newspaper online. Go to swap meets, look on bulletin boards at the Harley Shop, local Indy shops, etc ....... ask around at work or people you know, friends, relatives.
